"Dear America...", Letter #5 Submission Guide


1.

Open your letter in GoogleDrive.
​If you put a class heading on your letter (name, date, class period), remove it.


2.

Go to Tools > Word Count and double-check that you've written the minimum of 300 words in your letter. If you haven't hit the 300-word mark, get back to writing!


3.

When your letter is ready to be printed, SHARE your letter with Mr. Cushing using his jcushing@jeffcoschools.us account.


4.

Go to Mr. Cushing, and confirm that he received your letter via Google Drive, and ask him to print your letter for you. Get both copies of your letter from the printer.


5.

Click the button below to open a new window and go to Turn-It-In.com.

6.

Log in to your Turn-It-In.com account.

Click here if you cannot remember your ​Turn-It-In login credentials.


7.

Submit your letter.

If you cannot remember the step-by-step directions for submitting work through Turn-It-In, 
see
page 3 of your History Class Infographic. 


8.

Once you see you your Turn-It-In submission receipt, go see Mr. Cushing to verify that your letter was submitted correctly, and get your blank envelope.


9.

Write your name, date, and class period at the top left of ONE copy of your printed letters.
​Set aside this 
copy for a moment.


10.

Go to your GoogleDrive and open your copy  
of your "Dear America..." Info. Tracker Chart

(see picture at the right)  -------------------->

11.

Write a RETURN ADDRESS on the top left corner of the front of your envelope.  (see example below)

Your return address must include ... 

•  Your fake name. *
​
•  A made up street address. For example: "18 Oak Ave.",  "#6 Main St.", "121 Harvard Ave.", etc.
•  The town or city in Colorado that you are writing from.

12.

Record this return address in Table 5 of your "Dear America..." Info. Tracker Chart

13.

Write a MAILING ADDRESS in the center of the front of your envelope.   (see example below)

The mailing address must include ... 

•  Your partner's fake name. *
​
•  The address (street & town) that you recorded in Table 2 on your Info. Tracker. (2022 only)
​•  The address (street & town) that you copied from Letter 4 into Table 4 on your Info. Tracker.

14.

Draw a color stamp on your envelope.   (see the example below)

​The stamp must be...

• full COLOR
• historically accurate; no ninjas, flying saucers, tater tots, blue llamas etc.  

Drawing a blank on something original, unique, and fun...? Just do something simple like
​a 
U.S. flag, a nature scene, George Washington, a sailing ship, etc.

15.

Take the second copy of your letter — the one that does NOT have a heading on it -- and fold it into THIRDS, and place the letter in the envelope.   * see the illustration below
If your letter is multiple pages, do NOT staple the pages together; just fold them together.

16.

Fully seal the envelope along the entire gummed adhesive strip.  


17.

If your loose letter is more than one page, staple the pages together.


18.

Deliver your loose letter, and your sealed letter in the envelope to Mr. Cushing.


19.

Log out of Turn-It-In.  Log out of GoogleDrive.


20.

Done!
