Political Affiliation
Historic Background: As the 1900s began, the U.S. government wanted to keep socialists, communists, anarchists, and anyone else with anti-democratic political beliefs out of the country. Those in charge also believed (a) that the government should leave people and businesses leaders alone, (b) that the economy should run by the rules of supply & demand, (c) that the government should NOT try to control prices and wages, and (d) that individual people are responsible for themselves and that they shouldn't expect the government to help them live their lives.
